MAJOR CONTENT CLUSTER: 7.RP.A. Analyze proportional relationships and use them to solve realworld and mathematical problems.
MAJOR CONTENT STANDARDS
7.RP.A.2. Recognize and represent proportional relationships between quantities.
7.RP.A.3. Use proportional relationships to solve multistep ratio and percent problems. Examples: simple interest, tax, markups and markdowns, gratuities and commissions, fees, percent increase and decrease, percent error.
GRADE 7 MATH; RATIO REASONING
LESSON PLAN IDEAS...
This three week unit introduces and develops concepts around ratios. Students learn to use ratios in their reasoning, and they use the language of ratios and rates to describe relationships and solve a wide variety of problems.
This lesson introduces students to the term ratio, its meaning and use, and the various ways in which a ratio can be presented in a fun entertaining way...

Generates basic quizzes in arithmetic.

ACTIVITIES
Interactive game where students fill the shapes with the respective ratio of colors.
A game similar to Bejeweled in which students pick a character and play a different opponent at each level. There are 14 levels to the game. Students move from simple two part ratios {1: 2} to harder, more complex 3 part ratios {1 : 2 : 4} and decimal ratios {1.5 : 3}. Players are provided with a ratio recipe and they are expected to create that ratio or an equivalent ratio by selecting from colored potions on the game board. This game can be used to introduce ratios and does not require preteaching. Ratio Rumble Teacher Guide PDF
Ratio Blaster is a math game that provides practice in finding equal ratios. Invading spaceships with ratio problems move down from the top of the screen toward a laser cannon on a platform at the bottom.
Ratio Martian is a math game that provides practice in recognizing ratios. The martian is always hungry and eats ratios to survive.
Ratio Stadium is a multiplayer math game that allows students from anywhere in the world to race against each other while matching equivalent ratios!

STANDARD 7.RP.A.1.
7.RP.A.1. Compute unit rates associated with ratios of fractions, including ratios of lengths, areas and other quantities measured in like or different units. For example, if a person walks 1/2 mile in each 1/4 hour, compute the unit rate as the complex fraction 1/2/1/4 miles per hour, equivalently 2 miles per hour.

STANDARD 7.RP.A.2.
7.RP.A.2. Recognize and represent proportional relationships between quantities.

Decide whether two quantities are in a proportional relationship, e.g., by testing for equivalent ratios in a table or graphing on a coordinate plane and observing whether the graph is a straight line through the origin.

Identify the constant of proportionality (unit rate) in tables, graphs, equations, diagrams, and verbal descriptions of proportional relationships.

Represent proportional relationships by equations. For example, if total cost t is proportional to the number n of items purchased at a constant price p, the relationship between the total cost and the number of items can be expressed as t = pn.

Explain what a point (x, y) on the graph of a proportional relationship means in terms of the situation, with special attention to the
points (0, 0) and (1, r) where r is the unit rate.
