Course Description:
Introduction to Medical Science introduces middle school students to the exciting, dynamic world of the health sciences, an industry that is rapidly changing and high in demand for workers who can think critically to solve a range of health-related problems. Students will explore healthcare systems, legal and ethical issues in healthcare and basic healthcare skills. Upon completion of this course, proficient students will be prepared to pursue courses in high school that lead to careers in the fields of biotechnology research, therapeutics, health informatics, diagnostics, and support services.

Immersive and interactive, this Z-Space all-in-one functioning computer with specific 3D software programs instills innovation, problem-solving and creative thinking across multiple grade levels and subjects. The virtual reality stylus lets students interact with objects, such as the human heart, and really understand the science behind the models  while the lightweight zSpace glasses fosters a seamless collaborative experience. 

"Youscience" career testing

Every student at CMS that has a CTE class is given a YouScience account where they can take a career interest survey, and a career aptitude assessment to help determine their ideal field of study.  The website offers a wide range of information about careers, with videos that specify current job and educational requirements, potential income and can be updated by the student as they move through the different grades.  Every C.T.E. student has access from middle school through high school.


CMS hosted a mock interview for all of our 8th grade CTE students.  The students had 4 days to prep by rotating through the CTE classes learning about soft skills and work ethic, resume writing, and interview skills.


Many different members from community businesses, colleges, Better Business Bureau, and police officers to interview our students and give feedback for them.  This event was not only eye opening for our students but also received many positive comments from the individuals interviewing about the high level of some of our students here at CMS.


Cleveland Middle School Medical Science students started their time in class researching medical careers. Students learned about different job opportunities, education and how to find the right path to achieve their goals.


Students this year were introduced to the history of medicine, basic human anatomy and potential medical careers. Students engaged in hands-on activities to build their understanding of science content and applied what they learned to solve medical case studies.

Project Based Learning (PBL) is a constructivist instructional approach where students are engaged in meaningful inquiry of personal interest to them and where collaboration and personalized learning are emphasized. Research confirms that PBL is an effective and enjoyable way to learn and develop deeper learning competencies required for success in college, career and civic life.
