CMS VIRTUAL SCHOOL OF CLEVELAND [VSC]  PROGRAM - S.T.E.M.

"Research shows that students who never struggle in school underperform after graduation. STEM provides the struggle, and the need for grit and perseverance to accomplish a difficult task. Along the way, students learn collaboration, problem-solving, and critical thinking out of sheer necessity. And since most of the jobs our elementary students will have in the future haven’t even been invented yet, these are skills that will be assets to everyone, no matter the profession."

~Chris Gibson, STREAM Teacher

As we headed back to school in the Fall of 2020, during a global pandemic, our school district decided to approach the dilemma facing many parents unwilling to take the risks in sending their student back to in-school learning, by providing another option, a hybrid approach to the startup of the new school year.  This shift came amid a widespread spike in the number of active coronavirus cases in our county.  We launched a Virtual School option based on the Florida Virtual School Curriculum.

UPDATE FOR PARENTS FOR VIRTUAL SCHOOL OF CLEVELAND

We offer our Virtual School of Cleveland students the opportunity to participate in-person tutoring after-school on certain afternoons.  Researchers say early data shows the pandemic is taking a toll on student learning. A recent report by McKinsey details five strategies schools can take to curb these losses: tutoring; lengthening the school year; ensuring learning materials are at grade level; partnering with community organizations; and tapping parents as partners in boosting literacy.

PROJECT-BASED LEARNING...

Project Based Learning (PBL) is a constructivist instructional approach where students are engaged in meaningful inquiry of personal interest to them and where collaboration and personalized learning are emphasized.
